English: Stone Stripes on Tinto Hill Surprisingly this is a natural geological phenomenon. Stone stripes are the result of frost action, the freezing overturning the stones. Apparently well known in arctic regions there are examples in the Cairngorms and on Skye but here on Tinto is the southernmost known in Scotland. In a test here it was found that after disruption stripes began to re-form in just two years. This also occurs at several other areas on Tinto |
