Summary[edit]
DescriptionStratford Locomotive Yard with ex-GE J20 geograph-2873785-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg |
English: Ex-GE J20 0-6-0 at Stratford Locomotive Yard. Until the advent of the Bulleid 0-6-0s on the SR during World War Two, these GE Hill class D81 (LNER Class J20) were the most powerful 0-6-0s in the country and were massive-looking machines. No. 64676 shown here was built in 12/20 as No. 1271 (LNER No. 8271, then 4676 from 1946) and lasted until 9/61 - six months or so after this photograph. (It was probably never cleaned!) |
