Summary[edit]
DescriptionStream near boundary wall and fence - geograph.org.uk - 1187838.jpg |
English: Stream near boundary wall and fence. The small stream visible in this photo runs more or less parallel to the nearby boundary fence (which has a dry-stone wall just behind it); the land on the other side of these boundaries is associated with Asker Farm: 351771.
The area through which the stream runs is hemmed in by the wall and fence on one side, and by a fairly steep slope on the other; as a consequence, the ground is particularly soft and damp here. Most of the trees in this area are birches, which seem to be well-suited to the soil conditions here. The 1:25000 map shows that a tip, now disused, was nearby. However, the area shown here, far from the main road, is now mostly free of rubbish; a few car tyres can still be found along the course of the stream, but even their unpromising surface is gradually becoming host to some lichen species. An Ordnance Survey map from about 1914 reveals that the point shown here was once the north-eastern end of a rifle range; see: 1187864. |
