| Description |
English: Stryd y Jel - Shirehall Street. As the Wenglish version of the name suggests, this is the 'street of the jail' - the second and third buildings on the left formed the front of Caernarfon prison. The abolition of local jails, with prisoners from Caernarfon Crown Court being sent to Walton Prison, Liverpool, led to the buildings being converted into local government offices. The creation of an expanded county in 1974, and the growth in bureaucracy, led to a major programme of office building in the 1980s. A part of this new complex is seen on the right. |
