Summary[edit]
DescriptionSun and nearby stars viewed from Gliese 581.jpg |
English: This image, made using Celestia, shows the Taurus/Gemini/Orion region of the sky with our Sun included as it would appear from the Red Dwarf Gliese 581, 20 light years distant. Viewed from this potion, the Sun is an average looking star of magnitude 3.81 in the constellation Taurus, near Omicron Tauri.
The nearby stars of Procyon and Sirius appear to be in the same general region, yet considerably farther away from their parent constellations as viewed from Earth. Alpha Centauri, by contrast is in a completely different constellation, namely, Eridanus, in the vicinity of Rana and Nu Eridani on the bottom right of the image. Gemini appears rather different: Pollux is seen lying to the southeast of Castor, while Propusi and Tejat Posterior are much closer to each other. Taurus remains mostly unchanged with the exception of Aldebaran being located closer to Primus Hyadum. |
