Saya menggambarkan ada tiga pulau: pulau yang dihuni oleh para peneliti dan pulau yang menjadi target tujuan.

Pulau manfaat yang tak dapat dihitung (intabgible) dan pulau manfaat yang dapat dihitung (tangible). Hampir seluruh peneliti saat ini menargetkan untuk mencapai "pulau tangible" yang memang lebih gemerlap dengan penghargaan dari skala institusi, skala nasional, hingga internasional. "Pulau intangible" di sisi lain memang tidak gemerlap, hanya berisi "pohon dan buah" yang memang itulah tujuan riset dilaksanakan pada awal mulanya.

Jadi sekarang pilihan Anda akan mencerminkan Anda. Sangat dipahami untuk peneliti pemula (early career researchers) untuk memilih pulau tangible sebagai pilihan pertama. Namun saat karir mereka berkembang, bahkan hingga jadi Guru Besar, sangat diharapkan mereka memperluas jangkauan dengan pergi ke "pulau intangible".

Yang menarik adalah "pulau tangible" tetap saja menjadi pilihan utama, bahkan saat karir sudah tidak membutuhkan itu sebagai syarat utama.

Jadi memang benar, PILIHAN ANDA MENCERMINKAN ANDA.

Mari kita renungkan bersama.
