Summary[edit]
DescriptionThe Anchor - geograph.org.uk - 648457.jpg |
English: 400 years plus old hotel, much updated and extended in different centuries in Church Square, Old Shepperton. It has accommodated Dick Turpin, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The large, almost square, locally listed building is the west limb of a private square formed by the Shepperton Old Rectory (listed in the middle category of listed building nationally, Grade II*) and Shepperton Church (to Saint Nicholas) which is in the same category - recorded in 1086 it has several parts built in the 13th century. Architectural writer Nikolaus Pevsner quoted Old Shepperton as the best preserved medieval village centre in Middlesex. The hotel seized its domain name early: www.anchorhotel.co.uk |
