English: The Clock Tower (Big Ben) Big Ben is actually the nickname of the "Great Bell", weighing 14.5 tonnes, which strikes the hour. The nickname is also applied to the whole tower containing the bell, which is more properly known as The Clock Tower of the Houses of Parliament.
On a clear autumn day, the world's largest four-faced chiming turret clock, is seen in all its Victorian decorative glory as it approaches the hour of 11 and the sound of the Westminster Chimes followed by the distinctive "bonggggg" of Big Ben. |
