הספר דן בחיי בורוכוב ובכיווני הגותו בתקופה המכרעת לעיצוב עולמו הרוחני, שהייתה תקופת 1906–1900, מעלייתו על הבמה הציבורית ועד אחרי ועידת פולטבה. מינץ פורש את מעורבות בורוכוב במאבק נגד תוכנית אוגנדה, את תרומתו המיוחדת לגיבוש הרעיון של תנועה החלוצית, כתנאי הכרחי להגשמת הציונות (ביל"ו החדשה – התנועה התרפויטית), את לבטי בורוכוב בין תנועה זו לבין פועלי ציון והמרקסיזם, ואת תיקונו הווירטואלי למארקסיזם. מינץ מוכיח, שפרק הזמן הנדון אינו בחזקת יריעה נלווית למסכתו הפועלי-ציונית של בורוכוב, אלא מעגל העומד בפני עצמו.
