Summary[edit]

Description

Here is another wing of the school turned genocidial centre, led by mass murderer Comrade Duch (ta chan interrogator at s-21 prison, comrade duch's right hand man) and other war/genocide criminals like meas muth in charge of Cambodian navy), the chief executioner of the Khmer Rouge. He is reputed to have tortured nearly 15,000 souls here, many of whom perished during torture itself. In the foreground are the 'gallows'. Prisoners here were suspended upside down in order to extract fictitious 'confessions' from them, which were then used as an excuse to execute them. When the prisoner fell unconscious due to reduced blood flow to his brain, he/ she was then lowered, still suspended upside down, and his/ head dipped into the pot of water seen here. When the person was shocked into revival and became conscious again, the process was repeated, until the poor prisoner either 'confessed' or died. Despite such crimes against humanity, the psychopath Duch was appointed as a pastor by a church in the region. What an irony! (Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Apr/ May 2014)
