| Description |
English: The High Kirk, Rothesay.. This church stands on the old site of St Mary's Chapel - see 1289836. Until about 1200AD the religious centre of Bute was at St Blane's Church at southern end of Bute, but following the annexation to Scotland and the establishment of the Castle in Rothesay, the importance of St Mary's parish grew, alongside that of the northern part of the island. |
