Summary[edit]
DescriptionThe Rose and Crown - geograph.org.uk - 1603681.jpg |
English: The Rose and Crown. A pub has probably existed here since the late 17th century, making use of its site on the old Hastings Road, which at that time ran up nearby Old Hill (see 1603691), with this pub being at its foot. The name itself was first recorded in 1787. A pond and green stood in front of it. For much of the 18th century, it was owned by the local brewery (see 1162643), serving their Fox's Ales.
When the current A21 Farnborough Way was built in 1927, the old pub stood on the route of the new road, and it therefore had to be replaced by the present building, set back from the road. |
