Summary[edit]
DescriptionThe Trafalgar Way - 18th post-horse change - geograph.org.uk - 1195317.jpg |
English: The Trafalgar Way - 18th post-horse change. Lt. Lapenotiere of HMS Pickle was the officer charged with bringing back to the Admiralty in London the news of victory at the Naval battle at Trafalgar but the death of Admiral Lord Nelson, on 21st October 1805. Lt. Lapenotiere made a 37-hour journey by post horse from Falmouth to London.
In 2005 a re-enactment of his journey took place, with plaques being erected at all the places where he changed horses. This is the plaque at the 18th change, at the White Lion at Hartfordbridge. The inn is now an antiques centre, seen here 1195340 and here 1195346 |
