Summary[edit]
DescriptionThe White Hart, the oldest inn in the Isle Of Axholme - geograph.org.uk - 1121659.jpg |
English: The White Hart, the oldest inn in the Isle Of Axholme. Prior to the 18th century, buildings in North Lincolnshire tended to be either constructed of stone, or for the more modest, lower-class buildings, mud-and-stud was used. Regrettably, few buildings using this latter material survive, but the White Hart Inn, is such a building. At the core is a 16th century timber frame, which has subsequently been encased in brick and had a rough cast render applied. Also the roof is now covered in clay pantiles, but it was probably originally thatched. It is a grade II listed building in a conservation area of Crowle. |
