Summary[edit]

Description
English: The church of SS Peter & Paul - war memorial The church of St Peter & St Paul > 1363364 - 1363383 - 1363431 is situated on an elevation above the River Tas. The round tower dates from Saxon times and the north porch was added in the 15th century. The church was extensively restored in the 19th century but retains the original octagonal C15 font > 851864. The benches in the naves have carved poppyheads with candle pricks still clearly discernible, the carved bench ends > 1363413 were damaged in the 1640s and restored by Ollett and Spaul of Norwich in the 19th century. The pulpit > 1363405 was made from two Jacobean oak panels. There is an unusual alabaster tomb > 1363421 at the east end of the north aisle. It is in memory of Elizabeth and Thomas Drake who died in 1485. Carved into the top are their protraits > 1363427 - the inscription was defaced by the Reformers. The north aisle window depicting St Simeon and Anna > 1363400 is by A.L. Moore of London. One of the south chancel windows (depicting SS Peter and Paul) is by F.W. Oliphant and dates from 1854 > 1363392.
