Summary[edit]

Description
English: The last Jewish shop in Brick Lane Ch.N.Katz was a small string and paper bag supplier until the late 1990's when rising rents forced out the eponymous owner after 57 years. Some years earlier the artist Rachel Lichtenstein used the shop window for an installation recalling her family's Jewish past, and the story of this and other forgotten inhabitants of the area is told in the book 'Rodinsky's Room' by her and Iain Sinclair, published in 1999: highly to be recommended to anyone interested in Spitalfield's Jewish history.
