Summary[edit]

Description
English: The original English Hotel, Exeter The Royal Clarence Hotel, Exeter, was the first enterprise in England to be called a hotel, by William Praed in 1769. It has since spread beyond the 6-bay building with the Royal coat of arms against the skyline to include the former Exeter Bank to the right, at the corner of St Martin’s Lane. To the left, behind Richard Hooker's statue, two gabled C17 buildings, and then no. 18, a later 5-storey building rebuilt in the early C20.
