Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe remains of RAF Harrowbeer - geograph.org.uk - 89844.jpg |
English: The remains of RAF Harrowbeer. RAF Harrowbeer was a World War II airfield. Almost all the runways are now covered in grass except for a few patches, such as in the foreground of this photograph. This airfield can quite literally be said to have been built on the ashes of Plymouth. Large areas of Plymouth were completely destroyed by bombing in March and April 1941 and the airfield, which was then being built, was a convenient recipient of the rubble which was used as a hardcore base for the runways. |
