Description
English: The top of Combe Gibbet, Inkpen Hill I understand that the gibbet seen here is the latest in a long line of replacements of the first 17th century one. If this is the case - and it seems reasonable to accept that it is - the attention to detail here is remarkable. Note the rope burns in the cross-piece which would have been worn in the original by the weight of corpses swinging and turning in the wind...
