Repro ID: S4191 Colour lithograph showing the Cunard paddle steamer Britannia (1840) 'As she appeared leaving her dock at East Boston, February 3rd, 1844, bound from Boston to Liverpool, a canal having been cut into the ice 7 miles long and 100 feet wide'. Many observers stand on the ice and wave at the ship and the Boston coast stretches across the background beneath a stormy sky. A second version of the print includes a dedication 'by the Publishers to the Merchants of Boston who projected and paid for the canal'.
