| Description |
English: Three Salmon in a Wishing Well. These three salmon in the Wishing Well on the River Walk (see 1282950) are a modern interpretation of the town crest of Peebles: 'three salmon counter-naitant' (= 1 swimming up-stream and 2 swimming down-stream). The town's motto is "Contra nando incrementum" ~ "increase by swimming against the current", which shows the importance of the Tweed as a salmon-breeding river. |
