Torre em taipa militar, mandada erguer de raiz pelo califa Almóada Ya´qub al-Mansur em 1191. Com vigilância privilegiada sobre o porto fluvial e oceânico de Alcácer, no seu interior foi construído um compartimento, habitando nele uma família que ficava encarregada da defesa militar deste sctor da muralha. Após a conquista portuguesa de 1217, a torre mantém as suas funções militares. Em data indeterminada, mas algures no início do século XIV, passa da jurisdição da Ordem de Santiago para a vereação da Câmara Municipal de Alcácer do Sal. No início do século XVII (1607), a Câmara de Alcácer do Sal contratou Manuel Calado para consertar o relógio da “Villa” que, já na altura, estava nesta Torre. Desde finais do século XVI ou início do XVII, a Torre do Relógio marca soberanamente a lenta passagem do tempo, sofrendo pouco ao longo dos séculos, enquanto a seus pés um fervilhar de alcacerenses nasce, vive e morre, enquanto trabalha, descarrega barcos, embarca mercadorias e coloca as novidades em dia. <a href="https://www.cm-alcacerdosal.pt/locais/torre-do-relogio/" rel="noreferrer nofollow">www.cm-alcacerdosal.pt/locais/torre-do-relogio/</a> |
