| Description | Também conhecida ou chamada pela Igreja da Praça ou Igreja do Relógio, por se encontrar na sua torre o relógio de quatro mostradores que a toda a vila dá as horas e estar numa praça, de seu nome Praça da República. A sua construção teve início do século XIX. Pelo facto da igreja matriz se ter tornado pequena, a população juntou-se, uns com trabalho, outros com material, outros com dinheiro e deram início à construção da nova igreja. A sua maior benfeitora, foi uma senhora que tinha um filho na guerra que há muito não lhe dava notícias. Por este facto a senhora prometeu grande ajuda monetária para a nova igreja. Passado algum tempo o seu filho voltou são e salvo e a senhora cumpriu até ao fim dos seus dias. Com a sua morte os seus herdeiros não continuaram, por várias razões, com os donativos e a construção parou. Em 1838, foi transformada em cemitério. As obras recomeçaram em 1879 não chegando nunca a ser concluídas. Actualmente é usada como sala de espectáculos, exposições, etc. Tal como todas as outras igrejas também esta é pertence da fábrica da Igreja de Amareleja. <a href="https://amareleja.com.sapo.pt/patrimonio.htm" rel="nofollow">amareleja.com.sapo.pt/patrimonio.htm</a> |
