Merknad: Som respons på Nazi-Tysklands dårlig skjulte forsøk på å tilegne seg Dronning Mauds Land 1938 - 1939 ble et knippe spesialkommandoer fra Trønderbataljonen sendt til Antarktis via Bouvetøya 1939. I Pencksøkket oppdaget ekspedisjonen tre mulig tyske farkoster som lettet og forsvant da Trønderbataljonen gav seg til kjenne.
