In San Francisco: overhead wires for a trolley bus line with a single conductor for a tram line branching off to the left of the picture and another trolley bus line branching off to the right.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Details of overhead wiring for streetcars (trams) and trolley buses seen in Steuart Street, near the Embarcadero, San Francisco, California.

The double conductors for one trolley bus route run straight, diagonally from top left to bottom right of the image. Presumably, the more distant of these two conductors is at 600 V DC and the nearer one at ground voltage. A single conductor branches off the more distant one to supply a streetcar route. This crosses the other trolley conductor at an insulated "dead" section and goes off near the top left-hand corner of the image.
Going in the other direction, a pair of trolley conductors branch off towards the viewer again with a "dead" section.
