Summary[edit]
DescriptionTravemuende Der Seemann.JPG |
Deutsch: Die drei Meter hohe Großplastik „Der Seemann“ in Travemünde.
English: The three-metre high sculpture "The Sailor" in Travemünde, Germany. It was designed in 1925 by the Hamburg sculptor Ludwig Kunstmann and produced by the Kieler Kunst-Keramik AG in dark, brown-red clinker ceramic. It originally stood at the corner of a clinker brick building. When this was demolished in 1973, the figure was destroyed, but the 20 to 50 cm (8" to 20") fragments were salvaged from the rubble and stored. In 1993, it was reassembled by the Lübeck Waterways and Shipping Office and covered with a protective coating to prevent rainwater from penetrating the numerous crevices. It was then placed in its present location at the Waterways and Shipping Office and renamed "The Pilot Statue". |
