Summary[edit]

Description
English: Trent Lock: Grantham Canal This is Lock 1, on the Grantham Canal, has been restored by the Grantham Canal Partnership but is now permanently sealed by Severn Trent Water Authority. There are flood gates immediately above the wooden lock gates in the centre of the photograph. The aim of the Restoration Society is to open up the canal as a fully navigable route along its whole length and it had a boost in March 2008 when the East Midlands Development Agency agreed to put £65,000 towards a study which will decide the best connecting route to the River Trent. It is most unlikely that the original route through West Bridgford could be used as there has been major disruption due to road building and residential development. There have been several alternative routes suggested over the years and this study will assess all of them as to their viability. It is expected that creating a new link to the Trent will cost over 10 million pounds.
