Afrikaans: Geskiedenis: Die huis is tussen 1754 en 1756 deur die chirurg Nicolaas Fuchs gebou, en is die oudste in Tulbagh. Na die dood van Fuchs, twee jaar later, het die Kerkraad die eiendom met die huis wat hy daarop gebou het, aangekoop vir bewoning deur die nuwe “voorleser” H. A. Bruggeman. 'n Buitekamer is as skoolkamer gebruik en in 1818 is 'n alleenstaande agterkamer gebou wat met 'n afdak aan die huis verbind is. Die huis het kerkeiendom gebly tot 1875, toe dit deur W. Theron, die vader van die SA-oorlogsheld Danie Theron, gekoop is.
Visuele beskrywing: Weens die effens aweregse plasing van die huis in verhouding tot Churchstraat, is dit duidelik dat die huis die aanlê van die straat voorafgegaan het. Die vensters is onreëlmatig en die gewel gepunt, eie aan Tulbagh en waarskynlik 19de eeus. Na die huis omvattend vervictoriaans is, is die voorkoms in 1861 weer herstel. Soort perseel: Huis. Vorige gebruik: Woonhuis. Huidige gebruik: Huis. English: History: Built between 1754 and 1756 by the surgeon Nicolaas Fuchs, the house is the oldest in Tulbagh. After Fuchs’ death two years later the Kerkraad bought the property and the house he had built on it, in order to accommodate the newly arrived “voorleser” H. A. Bruggeman. A buitekamer was used as school room and in 1818 a separate room was built for this purpose behind the house and connected with it by means of a flat roofed section. The house remained church property until 1875, when it was bought by W. Theron, father of SA War hero Danie Theron.
Visual Description: Due to the slightly oblique placing of the house in relation to Church Street, it is clear that the house predates the laying of this street. Its fenestration is irregular and the pointed gable which is peculiar to Tulbagh is probably 19th century. The house was extensively Victorianised, but has been returned to its appearance circa 1861.
