A smiling girl wearing a blue and yellow twig - the colours of Ukrainian flag

Summary[edit]

Description
English: This is a photo from a series I call "Sunflower Peace."

It has been two years since the war started in my homeland, Ukraine.

Millions of Ukrainian children were forced to leave their home country to avoid bombs, destruction, and death.

Some of them lost their dad, mom, or both.

Some of them, now safe, still flinch when an airplane passes overhead.

But all of them dream of returning home to live their peaceful lives in a tranquil Ukraine.

My two daughters were born in France, but I instill in them my love for the country of my birth.

Embroidered dresses, handmade faceless dolls called 'motanka', painted eggs 'pysanky', and sunflower fields are powerful symbols of Ukraine.

Although we cannot go there right now, I want them to stay connected with the land of their ancestors through the visual stories I tell with my camera.

I pray for peace in Ukraine. ♥️

May all children on the planet be safe and happy. 🌿
