Description
English: A Navy corpsman with Lima Co., 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, attempts to calm several angry Iraqi civilians in a mock Iraqi town at the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center in 29 Palms, Calif., Dec. 14, 2005. Marine infantry battalions participate in a month-long training evolution here called "Mojave Viper" as part of a pre-deployment training package before deploying to Iraq. From reacting to deadly improvised explosive devices to conducting searches through a civilian-populated Iraqi town, the Iraq-bound Marines are learning and rehearsing various "real life" scenarios they will encounter in Iraq. The Iraqi-Americans are role players hired to add authentic Iraqi culture to the Marines' training.
