Description

USS Connecticut BB-18 is shown during speed trials off the coast of Maine in 1906. Photo taken by Robert Enrique Muller Jr and according to Leslies Illustrated Weekly Newspaper of 10 Oct, 1912 " More than once, to get the pictures, Mr Muller risked his life. To get the one of the USS Connecticut in action, he got a motor boat and drove out squarely in front of it: after he had snapped, the engine of the motor boat failed and the ship was bearing down upon him. By the narrowest chance he escaped with is life... and one plate. It is the most remarkable picture of a battleship ever taken. Mr Muller is the marine photographer on the staff of Leslies and is widely known for his excellent work. " according to Mr Muller's own report this was the last plate shot before being thrown from the boat, he lost several other plates and was barely able to hold onto the camera and save this one.
