Summary[edit]

Description
English: The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Nicholas (DDE-449) on 16 February 1950, after her conversion to an escort destroyer being "moth-balled", again. In order to counter the Soviet submarine fleet and have a more modern type of destroyer in reserve, in case of a crisis, Nicholas was rebuilt and immediately laid up. She was finally recommissioned after the outbreak of the Korean War on 19 February 1951.
