Description The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-5) burning, photographed during the Battle of Midway, 4 June 1942. The photo was probalby taken shortly after she had been struck by two torpedoes on the port side at 1620 hrs but before she was abaondoned after her list increased to 26°. Note the sailors on the flight deck and the flak bursts.
