Summary

[edit]
Description This is a wedge snowplow on display at the Limon Heritage Museum in Limon, Colorado, USA. Snow trains were headed by such snow plows by being pushed from behind by one or more locomotives. Unlike rotary snowplows, which used rotating blades to loosen and expel snow and ice, wedge snowplows merely pushed snow and ice to the sides of the tracks. This unit was built in December 1951 from a pre-existing steam locomotive tender. It served as a snowplow on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad (# 95580) until 1981, when it was acquired by Union Pacific Railroad and renumbered to # 900016.
