Summary[edit]

Description

Although Los Angeles is a United hub and a number of United 777 departures are available daily, this is the only domestic departure among them. Every morning shortly before 8, a 3-class 777 takes off to head for Washington Dulles, with continuing overnight service to a European destination.

Flight 950's final destination is Brussels, though more likely than not an equipment change will be involved at Dulles. For years this flight was instead designated as United 946, with the final destination of Amsterdam.

This is the only flight United operates at LAX using its 3-class short-range variant of the 777, which is normally used for services between Washington Dulles and Europe. The short-range 3-class United 777s (XC in United parlance) are among the first 777s ever built; this particular one was the 35th off the line, built in July 1996, and sister ships N771UA through N774UA are the 2nd through the 5th off the line. United once operated sixteen 3-class short-range 777s (N766UA through N781UA), but now operates thirteen; N766UA, N767UA, and N770UA had had their leases terminated during the 2002 bankruptcy reorganization. Six additional short-range 777s (N210UA through N215UA) are two-class domestic configuration.
