Notes vergrößerte Nachbildung eines Werkstattmodells des Bildhauers Hugo Lederer für ein Heine-Denkmal, das der Senat der Hansestadt Hamburg 1911 bei ihm in Auftrag gegeben hatte, 1926 aufstellen und nach der Etablierung des Nazi-Regimes 1933 demontieren ließ. Im Jahre 1943 wurde Lederers Bronzebildwerk zusammen mit tausenden anderer Bronzegegenstände für die Rüstungsproduktion verschrottet und eingeschmolzen. Ein kleines Gipsmodell von 1912 blieb erhalten. Das Werkstattmodell gehörte ursprünglich dem Düsseldorfer Rechtsanwalt Friedrich Maase. Es diente der Replik als Vorbild. Finanziert wurde die Statue von der WestLB und der Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf. Das weitere Heine Denkmal 2012 ebenfalls auf dem Campus der Heinrich-Heine-Universität, vor dem Roy-Lichtenstein-Saal, ein Geschenk des Düsseldorfer Immobilienmaklers Lutz Aengevelt und sollte nach dem Willen seines Spenders eigentlich das Standbild vor der Universitätsbibliothek ersetzen.
