| Description | The drive north from Tbilisi towards Kazbegi/ Stepantsminda is pretty straightforward for the first hour or so, barring the fairy tale setting of the Ananuri fortress which you saw earlier in this album. But then after Gudauri, (see previous pictures) you get to the proper mountains. The mountains only get wilder and bigger as you go along- I am really at a loss as to how to describe the drive after that; spectacular is the best word I can come up with. The road slowly makes its way up to a pass at 7,800+ feet, which we are on right now, before descending a couple thousand feet to Kazbegi. So here we are, following a long valley running right through the rugged mountains. (Kazbegi/ Stepantsminda, Georgia, Sept. 2016) |
