Description

Il s'agit d'une estampe contenant un passage des Métamorphoses d'Ovide traduit en français et une illustration de la main de Bernard Salomon. Le texte et l'illustration sont entourés d'un riche décor. L'épisode mythologique représenté est le suivant: alors que Pluton est en visite en Sicile, Vénus le remarque. Comme aucune partie du monde, y compris le monde souterrain, ne doit être épargnée par son pouvoir et celui de son fils, elle demande à Cupidon de percer Pluton d'une de ses flèches et de le faire succomber à l'amour.

L'estampe fait partie de l'édition de 1564 de La Métamorphose d'Ovide figurée, publiée par le typographe français Jean de Tournes.
