Summary
[edit]DescriptionVA-3B VQ-1 on USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) 1984.JPEG | A U.S. Navy Douglas VA-3B Skywarrior aircraft (BuNo 142672) from Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron VQ-1 World Watchers is readied for launch from the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70). The aircraft was assigned as a transport plane to the Commander United States Pacific Fleet. It was lost on 23 January 1985 circa 200 km NNW of Guam, probably due to a dual air turbine motor malfunction. The nine crew and passengers were killed, among them the VQ-1 CO, Cdr. John T. Mitchell. |
