Title
Forged portrait of Valentina Visconti, Duchess of Orléans
Object type painting
object_type QS:P31,Q3305213
Description
The 19th-century hand writing identifies these women as two Italian rivals from the 14th-century French court. However, the style of the costumes suggests 16th-century Germany. It has been suggested that the ensemble may be a forgery of the 19th century, made by Franz Wolfgang Rohrich (1787-1834) of Nuremberg, who forged paintings in the style of Lucas Cranach and Albrecht Dürer.[1]
