English: Right pterygoid bone (part of the holotype, AMNH FR 30630) of Varanus (Varaneades) amnhophilis CONRAD et al. 2012 from the upper Miocene of Samos (Greece) in lateral (A) and ventral (B) views. Figure C shows the position of the bone (highlighted in red) in the silhouette of a Varanus skull in right lateral view. Abbreviations: bc, braincase; bptb, basipterygoid buttress; colf, columellar fossa; fec, ectopterygoid facet; q, quadrate; qpr, quadrate process; tpr, transverse process.
