Summary[edit]
DescriptionVernon Coat-of-Arms - geograph.org.uk - 1473887.jpg |
English: Vernon Coat-of-Arms. Displayed above the entrance to Poynton Community Centre, see 1473876
'VERNON SEMPER VIRET' translates to 'Vernon always thrives'. Arms of Warren, with motto of Vernon below: Vernon Semper Viret. Chequy or and azure, on a canton gules a lion rampant argent between the forepaws a crescent of the first. Above the entrance to Poynton Community Centre, Cheshire. This is a difference of the arms of de Warenne, Earl of Surrey, an Anglo-Norman magnate, quartered by the Duke of Norfolk. George Charles Venables-Vernon, 4th Baron Vernon (1779–1835) married Frances Maria Warren, daughter of Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren, 1st Baronet. His son, the fifth Baron, represented Derbyshire and Derbyshire South in the House of Commons. assumed in 1837 by sign manual the surname of Warren only for himself and subsequent issue but this appears to have been repudiated by his son. |
