Summary[edit]
DescriptionVespula vulgaris (51652351150).jpg |
The common wasp or so called Limonade wasp. Many wasps live solitary and often do not even have a stinger. Others have an ovipositor. You sometimes see them go into a little hole, but you will not be bothered by it. They are alone and have a burrow with a larva. They are not interested in you. Something else is the common wasp, the Vespula vulgaris. Also called the linonade wasp. These do have a stinger and, like the Hornet, are very aggressive when they feel threatened. They live in large colonies of hundreds of wasps, often built underground. Nests of chewed wood and reed fibers. Such a cave must of course be built first. The residence of the Queen! There are wasps that use old mouse holes and similar holes. But not the common wasp. She digs out the hole completely. You can also see the wasps in the photo working with clumps of clay that are flown out en masse. A huge swarm of wasps flying in and out. The clay around the hole made in a grassy field tells enough. A dangerous undertaking for the photographer and keeping your distance is important to feel somewhat safe. The photo was taken with a 300mm lens. |
