"... un autentico gioiello drammatico di Vincenzo Irolli, "Napoli, 1943!!!". "Non un solo rione è stato salvato dalle bombe" si leggeva sui giornali. Vincenzo Irolli esegue questo quadro di cruda realtà riuscendo a far vivere a chi l’osserva tutta quell'atmosfera che il 1943 simboleggia per la città partenopea e faceva gridare ai napoletani "Napoli nun po' muri". Dipinto fortemente realistico e incredibilmente onirico che raffigura un mondo di anime in attesa dell'evento in un ambiente che si spoglia e che mette in luce l’immenso ed inesplorato "continente" napoletano. L'Irolli in quest'opera propone una scena di vita che rappresenta un ambiente diverso da quello che fino ad allora aveva eseguito con quadri pieni di colori e felicità che riempivano di spensieratezza."
