Normal peripheral blood smear, with the presence of expected blood cell components (neutrophils, erythrocytes, and platelets)

Summary[edit]

Description
English: WBC (White Blood Cell) at Center (Neutrophil): In a peripheral blood smear, white blood cells are typically observed. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell and are one of the body's primary defenses against infection. Finding neutrophils in the blood smear is normal, and the presence of these cells suggests that the immune system is actively monitoring for potential infections. Numerous Erythrocytes (Red Blood Cells): Erythrocytes, or red blood cells (RBCs), are responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and returning carbon dioxide to the lungs for exhalation. It's normal to observe numerous RBCs in a peripheral blood smear. A high number of RBCs could be associated with conditions like polycythemia or dehydration. Platelets (Dot-like Bodies): Platelets are small cell fragments involved in blood clotting and wound healing. They appear as small, dot-like structures in a peripheral blood smear. The presence of a normal number of platelets is essential for proper clotting. Low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia) or abnormal platelet function can lead to bleeding disorders.
