Summary[edit]

Description
English: Photo taken at the Wende Museum, an art museum, historical archive of the en:Cold WarI, and center for creative community engagement in Culver City, California, founded in 2002.

Wende is a German word for “transformation” that commonly refers to the era leading up to and following the fall of the Berlin Wall and Peaceful Revolution in 1989 and the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

The Wende's collections show visual and material culture of the former East Bloc communist countries, especially the GDR (East Germany), the Soviet Union, China, Vietnam, and North Korea.

The collection focuses on items and artefacts used in everyday life (consumer products) and artworks, such as consumer products (e.g., computers, radios, records, toiletries, foodstuff), works of modern and contemporary art in all media (e.g., paintings, drawings, sculptures, graphics, photographs), iconic political symbols (e.g., statuary, medals, flags, uniforms, commemorative gifts), espionage equipment, and archives. The museum contains large collections of furniture, flags and banners, commemorative plates, communist folk art, menus, family albums, and design items.
