Summary[edit]

Description
English: Photo taken at the Lofoten War Memorial Museum (Norwegian: Lofoten Krigsminnemuseum) in Svolvær, Norway's largest exhibition of uniforms and smaller items related to the Second World War and the German occupation of Norway 1940 – 1945:
  • Uniforms of the Soviet Red Army (RA USSR, RKKA) during World War II:
  • 1.
    • Officers' visor cap with Red star national cockade and red head band indicating "infantry"
    • Gymnastyorka (Гимнастёрка, gimnasterka, gymnastiorka, gymnasterka, gimnastyorka) field blouse/pullover tunic/smock jacket ca. 1923. The blue colour on the collar patches, the razgovory straps (chest-tabs, button flaps sown across the chest), the sleeve badge and the cuff insignia indicates cavalry as the branch of service. The crossed sword and rifle device is the emblem of cavalry scouts. The cipher/number probably is the number of the regiment.
  • 2.
    • Officers' visor cap with Red star national cockade og black head band indicating "artillery and vehicle transport troops"
    • A NKVD gymnastyorka pullover tunic with stand-and-fall collar, two breast pockets, rank insignia of Kapitan on gorget patches/collar tabs, and badge on left sleeve
etc.
The uniforms and equipment of the RKKA during the Great Patriotic War (GPW/WW2) can be described as simple, yet comfortable and practical. The basic uniform consists of a wedge cap (side cap, garrison cap, пилотка, pilotka) with a Red Star national cockade as cap badge, a pullover tunic (gymnastiorka), a pair of breeches (sharovari), and lastly, jackboots (sapogi) or ammo or ankle boots worn with puttees legwraps (botinki c obmotki). Telogreika (vatnik, fufaika) jackets and pants, i.e. Russian style warm, quilted, padded cotton winter outwear, became part of the Soviet Red Army winter uniform during the German-Soviet War (WWII).
