Object history
Deutsch: Das Wappen wurde am 11. Dezember 1967 vom Ministerium des Innern des Landes Rheinland-Pfalz genehmigt. Die Symbole des Wappens weisen auf die früheren Landesherrschaften im Kreisgebiet hin. Der Löwe steht für die Grafschaft Sayn, der Maueranker für die Herren von Wildenburg, welche später in den Besitz der Herren von Hatzfeld überging und das zweifarbige Kreuz für die beiden Kurfürstentümer Köln (Schwarz) und Trier (Rot).
English: The arms were granted on December 11, 1967. They combine the symbols of the former rulers of the district. The lion is for the Counts of Sayn, the anchor plate is for the Lords of Wildenburg (later Hatzfeld), and the cross is for the Archbishop-Electors of Cologne and Trier.
