| Description |
Washington, mainly the Mall area, from the air. This is the only good photo I have of Washington from an airplane, in the 22 years that I lived in the Washington area. I have some photos from the top of the Washington Monument, which are almost as good. The Washington Monument is in the right foreground. The Capitol is at the far end of the Mall. Constitution Avenue runs diagonally through the center of the photo. The Federal Triangle is the red-roofed buildings left of Constitution Avenue. The White House is hidden under the airplane wing, to the left of the grass circle. My office at American Petroleum Institute (API) is also hidden by the wing, near where the edge of the wing meets the real edge of the photo. The first three buildings on the Mall, left of the Washington Monument, are the American History Museum, Natural History Museum, and National Gallery of Art (Mellon Gallery). The Air and Space Museum is on the right side of the Mall, beyond the circular building. New York Avenue is the diagonal street at the upper left of the photo. Robert F. Kennedy Stadium and the D.C. Armory are in the right background. |
