English: Left panel: regularly placed & identical ellipses, considered as the reference background objects. Right panel: the observed image of the same objects after weak lensing. This illustration shows how the shape of background galaxies can be distorted by foreground massive structures in the Universe, due to gravitational effects. The distortion has been slightly exaggerated compared to the real-world scenario. |
